Sending wine from Italy to Spain?

I have to buy and send a good bottle of wine to a friend in Spain, from here in Italy.

I know absolutely nothing about the shipping part (the buying is pretty easy). In the United States, it can be tricky sending wine over borders -- I think I recall that it wasn't even necessarily legal in the old days, although I find it hard to believe that that would still be the case today.

So: does somebody know something about sending wine from Italy to Spain? Perhaps there are international shippers that somebody has used and liked?

Thanks for any inputs,

John

No problem, you can ship wine as if it were any merchandise. Use the post, they have special boxes for wine. I have never had problems.

At the risk of starting one of our favorite agreement threads, US Law is still pretty much in the dark ages with regard to wine shipments, sorry I can't help onthe European issue.

Thanks, sounds like it won't be a big hassle.

Amazing ... so the U.S. still hasn't cleaned up its act in that area.

Sadly, one only has to travel outside the U.S. (and I don't mean Canada, they're just as bad) to see how third-world-like we really are in *many* areas.

Both countries are in the EU - European Union, so you just mail your bottle, well packaged of course. Anders

The federal government ceded responsibility for managing the distribution and sale of alcoholic beverages to the states some 70 years ago. As a result, we have a hodge-podge of varying and conflicting laws regulating it. The feds have neither a mandate nor motivation to clean it up. We do actually derive some benefits from the tension between the feds and states, but as a wine-lover this is certainly not one of them!
