Hello kids ... Self and Xina are going to Paris tomorrow (YES YES YES) for a conference (cynical laughter) so wanted something light, and what is better than sushi, the slow fooder´s fast food. Xina asked for a glass of wine and self had put a gift bottle of Vinho verde in the fridge (always think a head friends), so having nothing better to offer, opened that. Now vinho verde is never a great sensation, it is not _meant_ to be a great sensation, and this one cost c SEK 50 (that's USD 7 in real money, folks) and it was, as expected, slightly fizzy, with a little acidity, and a hint of fruity freshness, and soemthing that could, in poor light, pass for mineral - and with sushi it was, well, great. That little minerality and the wasabi, the vinegar and the fruit - really, really good. However: remember that _real_ vinho verde is, in fact, a _red_ wine, no a white (nor is it green). The white stuff is for us effete tourists. Just thought you'd like to know.
