Suggestions for BBQ Wines

I am looking for wine favorites (type, brand, whatever) among folks here to go well with barbeque and grilled foods. I have some picks, but would welcome some more. Truth in posting requires that I admit that I am seeking ideas for a story I'm working on.

Thanks very much.

Like Ed Rasimus, I'm going to assume that you are not talking about REAL barbecue (insert my usual long rant about the superiority of Eastern NC style Q), but backyard grilling.

I think Zin is a very good multipurpose wine for that type of thing. Other alternatives might be a nice ripe modern Spanish red (the kind Eric Solomon has for $8-12) or a wine from the South of France (my go- to big backyard party wine is the Iche (Ch.d'Oupia) Les Heretiques.

I also like a very light styled off-dry Riesling with spicier dishes, and rose can do well too.

Ken, In addition to all the recommendations you've already received, I can add the red wines of Bandol (Mourvedre). With grilled meats, especially with a bit of char on them, a good Bandol is a great pairing.
