Tonight, with an improvised dinner of braised duck with sweet potatoes, I went down to the cellar for a "duck wine." What I came back with was yet another '05 Beaujolais:
2005 Dom. Gilles Coperet Fleurie (13% ABV) nose: initially, rather closed; opening later to show dark fruits, cranberry and grapefruit palate: no tannins in evidence, great acidity, medium body, dark fruitThis bottle was hand-carried back from France by the wiemaker's younger brother, a Professor of Chemistry in Lyon and a good friend of ours. It probably could age another 5 years or so, but was delicious tonight and went fabulously with the duck, an organically raised bird from an Amish farm that tasted far gamier than its store-bought cousins. All in all, a great dinner for a rainy night.
