Dinner with the Neidichi

Had a lovely dinner Saturday night with the Neiditchi on Saturday night at a Charlotte boite whose name escapes me for the moment--great very modern fusion cooking with a 2002 Sawyer Meritage that had a wonderful nose and Rutherford dust. I'd guess about 85-90% cab and the rest mostly merlot with maybe @2% cab franc & petite verdot. Very drinkable but will hold. winery's story as related by the "bean guy" was similar to Milton Eisele's.

89 of 100 points. Forgot the name of the small cxhampagne estate but it was yeasty and had a good finish. Probably a good QPR 86 points.

The Sawyer Cellars-Rutherford was the 2001 Bradford Meritage and was 50% Cabernet, 35% Merlot, 10% Cab Franc and 5% Petite Verdot. 14.1% Alcohol, 22 Months in French Oak. It is my personal favorite California Wine.

The Champagne product was a Guy Larmandier "Blanc de Blanc" , Cramant Grand Cru MV. One of my favorite small producer Champagnes.

Restaurant is Dakotas-(Charlotte, NC) and southern style bistro. Southern Food with French flair. Fusion would be very accurate

Absolutely.....Good spelling. Sorry I was not meaning to correct you that way. I just pulled their literature out of the case and entered it in. Most on this group have probably never had or seen Sawyer. Their winery sits next to Sequoia Grove, its adjacent to Opus One on the back corner. GREAT Terroir there.

The Sawyer Merlot is so Cab Like that their Meritage is in my opinion the best of Napa. It's quality is up there with Phelps Insignia.

Thanks for the tip, regardless of the makeup of the blend. I've seen the name, but have never tried Sawyer. Are they on Hwy 29, near the Oakville cut? Across, and slightly south of Opus is another great Cab, Merlot, and Zin producer, Milat. They used to provide a good bit of the eucalyptus/mint Cab for Silver Oak Napa, but now they bottle it.

Next Napa trip will definitely include Sawyer, along with my stand-by Phelps.

Hunt

They are on Rt 29. going north first winery past Sequoia Grove.
