Tonight with a light dinner at our favorite local kid-friendly restaurant, I found that the wine list had Husch Chenin Blanc on it. Having heard good things about it here, and having a desire for a food-friendly white, we decided to get it.
2005 Husch Chenin Blanc nose: powerful tropical fruit, pineapple palate: medium weight, off dry, grapefruit, pineapple and a hint of tropical fruit; finishes cleanly with decent acidityAll in all, a very pleasant wine. No oak that I could detect and enough acidity to pair with my shrimp/spinach salad. Still, not much resemblance to a Loire Chenin, but then again why should it have much? Vive la terroir! $23 at the restaurant, so probably $12-15 retail (low markups -- another reason that this restaurant is one of our favorites)
