TN: Man Chenin Blanc

Having elicited no responses from this group when I inquired if anyone had experienced Man SA Chenin Blanc, I put on the blindfold at last night's Anniversary Dinner and took the plunge.

It was from the 2008 vintage and bore a Stelvin cap. This is, after all the twenty-first century and there is no logical reason that modern wineries should feel compelled to use corks just because they are "traditional."

It had a clean slightly mineral and citrus nose which complimented the pale gold (no trace of green) color. Some tropical fruit came to the surface as it breathed air. Comparing it to the Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs that I usually purchase is almost like comparing apples and oranges. It had a character all of its own. South Africa is not New Zealand even though I have not been privileged to visit either locale.

I would give it a solid 16 on the Davis 20 scale. Now, where to find some for my home cellar? Last night's restaurant is the only place that I have ever seen it.
