TN: 2 1988 Jadots for David's 30th bday

Stepson David arrived from London/Rome Tuesday on way back to Berkeley, his birthday is today. We wanted a family celebration but Betsy’s sist er couldn’t do today, so we all went to Nooretuh in East Village We dnesday. Started with couple orders of the musubi sampler, so we each got pork jowl musubi, spam musubi, and spicy tuna musubi. I had the silken tofu with uni & ikura, followed by the waygu beef with fried rice and radishes. Others had chicory salad with papaya, tuna poke, spaghetti with unim five- spice pork chop with spätzle. Desserts included king's Hawaiian bread pudding and pineapple upside down cake. Everyone enjo yed food. Service was great as well.

1988 Jadot (Duc de Magenta) “Clos de la Garenne” Puligny-Mo ntrachet 1er Cru I thought this was definitely more mature than a bottle last year, but not at all tired. Honied oak accents over pear fruit, good acids, minerally fin ish. B+/A-

1988 Jadot Ruchottes-Chambertin Still some slightly hard tannin, rather tart cranberry/raspberry fruit, coff ee, bacon. Enjoyed more with some air. Don’t think I would have peg ged for Grand Cru, but nice 30 year old Burg with that slightly tough ? ??88 style. B+

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a p arty where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivi ty, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
