Oops, thought I had gra bbed the Grand Vignolle.This is a bit harsh on opening, but with some air a lovely smoky/herby CF. Black raspberry, green herbs, a little mocha. Firm tannin, good acids. Sturdy, tasty Cab Franc. B+/B
Toor dal, swordfish, green salad, I opened the 1983 Eugen Wehrheim ? ?Niedsteiner Rosenberg” Riesling Kabinett ( Rheinhessen). This w as a risky impulse buy- never heard of producer, not a big Rhine guy, but what the heck- nothing ventured, nothing gained. Nothing gained in this cas e. Still alive though some definite oxidation, pineapple and canned peach, tea. Boring. C+
So I opened the 2014 Pepiere Gorges Muscadet. New bottling to me (i think t his is negoce, from . Bregeon). Powerful style, citrus and a nutty note, l ong finish. Minerally, but in a less saline/seashell way than most Muscadet , tastes more mountain rocky if that makes sense., Fun. B+
Long day Sunday (annual picnic for homeless friends, only 2nd time in 27 ye ars ran out of food), when I got home I made myself a small steak, with sal ad and leftover dal. The 2017 Lambert Chinon rose was on the light side, st rawberries and floral notes, easy if a bit light for the meat. B/B-
