TN: 3 Loires, CFE, Brundlmayer, Fichet

With slow cooked pork and apple stew, the 2001 Trimbach Cuvee Frederic Emile Riesling. I’ve seen sporadic reports of premox, and had one bottle show advanced, but have generally been thrilled. I was a little nervous at the deep gold color when poured, but this was actually great. Deep, with Meyer lemon fruit laced with citrus blossoms and wet rock. Long, balanced, entrancing. A-

Hmart marinated chicken, rice, aa choy, grilled king trumpet mushrooms, assorted banchan, wine was the 2020 Lambert Chinon rose. Soft, ripe, easy. B-

Citrus salmon, spaghetti with pesto, butter glazed carrots, kale salad

2015 Fichet Auxey-Duresses Blanc This is pretty nice- it really shows the 2015 ripeness, but shies back from the cliff. There's enough acid and minerality to make it interesting, with pear, hazelnut, and floral notes. But I’m going to opt to drink my other bottles now. B/B+

Saturday scallopswith brown butter and capers, broccoli, sweet potatoes. Wine was the 2021 Boulay Chavignol Sancerre .Grapefruit and pineapple, long chalky finish, snappy. B+/B

Sunday jalapeno/cilantro pork chops, cilantro rice, spinach(I should have tested the jalapenos, they were stronger than I expected).Wine was the 2018 Lambert Chinon VV.This has some real tannic structure, a bit closed in, and the peppers did this no favors. Black raspberry, cocoa, and a little green tobacco, this is probably a better wine than it came across, with this match a B-, but look forward to trying another.

Monday chicken ramen with bok choy, miso, and egg, wine was the 2016 Brundlmayer Ried Steinmassl 1OTW Riesling. Melon and citrus, some petrol, a pleasant oily note to finish. Muscular but not heavy. B+

No wine Tuesday at a speech where I had “General Tso’s cauliflower” and sole francese.

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
