TN: '92 Durney Carmel Valley Cab

I bought a case on release on the recommendations of my wine pusher as the wine was, to me, well balanced on the heavy handed side. Big red fruit, with high acidity and rough tannins in about equal measure. I was interested to see how it would turn out. Every few years I have tried a bottle, usually with a strip steak dinner. I was dismayed to see that the fruit began to receed and the tannins softened, but the wine stayed very acidic, so would have been much better with, say, a tomato sauced meal.

Last night's bottle was a delight! Just why I keep wines. A little brickiness in the edge, mature red/black fruits with a little cinnamon in the nose and tongue. Soft tannins and thank Thor, the acids have mellowed well. Unfortunately, now I only have three left...

FWIW - the Durneys sold the estate in '94 and it is now called Heller Estate Organic Vinyards.
