NV Larmandier-Bernier Blanc de Blancs, Premier Cru. With hors d'oeuvres and (rather good if I say so myself) salad of mesclun with artichokes, sun dried tomatoes, braised peppers, shrimp and balsamic. Lovely and lean, quite long but at the same time light, fine balance of lemon rind with green apple and even a little seaweed. Unusually good at the price.
93 CdP Roger Perrin, mag. With roast boneless venison gigot, sweet onion relish, cranberry sauce, small ratte pan fried potatoes, snow peas. A lovely old lady but with a musty nose (like some other old ladies I've known!) that one person found disagreeable. Very feminine, maybe a bit leaner than a few years ago, hardly any tannins left so a little challenging for the biche. But still full of nice soft fruit. Almost more like an older claret than a CdP. Fitting end for the vintage.-E
