TN: Hacienda Monasterio, Ribera d.Deuro, 1996

Deepish red colored, a dense perfumed nose, with leather, rum-soaked plums, and some incense. Dark fruits with a lush sweet denseness to it, but with hints of sauvagery to keep it interesting. Despite being somewhat low in acid, the thickness and balance of this would suggest it could be kept another 5-7 years. The only note of caution might be a slight medicinal quality that becomes apparent with airing on the finish. Very well made. A solid A-/90.

I would agree, this is a great bottle. Can't find this vintage in my area these days but had many of the '96's when they were around. Also worth seeking out is the "reserva" bottling. More wood on it as would be expected and a smooth drink...
