TN: Lahertre Freres Champagne and Glantenay Volnay

For our Monday Zoom (with wagyu burger, maybe not traditional match!) the 2015 Laherte ?Les Grandes Crayeres? Extra Brut Blanc De Blancs Champagne. Crisp and crunchy, green apple and citrus, nice minerally finish. Bright and lovely. A-/B+

No wines Tues and Wed while I went to city, but Thursday I made 5-spice duck breast, grilled zephyr squash and onions, while Betsy did a riff on Caesar salad. Wine was the 2010 Bernard and Thierry Glantenay?Santenots?Volnay 1er. I was a little worried about opening a 2010, and it was a little reticent at first, but with only a short period of air it was showing well. Red cherry and cranberry fruit, earth, some smoke and cocoa. Midbodied, rather smooth tannins, balanced acids. Nice long finish, with ferric note. With extended air it got perfumed and floral. Really nice, will last but shockingly good now (new producer to me) A-

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
