[TN] My first Frankenwien ('07 Wirsching Scheurebe)

Over the years, I have occasionally lamented my situation in comparison to Dale's, as I can't generally go to my local retailer and find Coche Dury Meusaults discounted to $10 for a 375. Yes, I can buy over the Internet, but my "buy local" ethic is strained by such moves. So, it is with pleasure that I note that our one local retailer of note has been improving its selection dramatically. It now stocks two Edmunds St. John wines ('08 Fairbairn Syrah and '08 Bone Jolly) as well as a good selection of Oregon Pinots and other goodies. Even more surprising, though, was the sight of a bocksbeutel on their shelves:

2007 Hans Wirsching Scheurebe Kabinett Iphopfer Kalb nose: petrol, flowers, lemons, minerals palate: light, good acidity, dry, crisp finish

Very light and refreshing with a beguiling nose and a dry mouthfeel. Very enjoyable, and how appropriate to have Frankenwein shortly after Halloween! ;-)

Eek!! I just noticed the typo in my title. If Michael P or Anders T reads this, I *do* know how to spell Wein! ;-)

No problem at all!

BTW, "Wien" is German for Vienna (my birth & home city), but you probably know that quite well ... ;-)

Just to explain this to those unfamiliar with Vienna:

Vienna lies not only on the banks of the river Danube (everybody knows, of course), but also on the bank of a river called "Wien" like the city itself. In fact, although it's called "Wienfluss" in German ("River Wien"), it's not a river at all, more a beck or ditch.

Take a look:

Or try google pics searching "wienfluss".

So "Wien an der Wien" means "Vienna on the (banks of the river) Vienna".
