Walla Walla Washington Trip

Was in Walla Walla this past week for 4 days and visited a few wineries in spare time.

First let me say this little town is really growing up well. The wines we had this year were some of the finest I have ever had. More than that the accomodations have improved tremendously since last year.

If you want a downtown location, thus walking for dinner I highly suggest

Next there are three excellent restaurants that were frequented: (in order of favorites)

Saffrons: (mediteranean---with seasoning only---more like french- italian) The chef used to work with Todd English.

26 Brix: French Bistro , excellent but not Buchon, but very good!1

Morrison Crawford: Outstanding, pricey.

Wineries of distinction:

-Abeja

-K Vintners

-A Maurice

-Vapiano

-Pepperbridge

-Northstar

-Leonetti (not open to public) Walla Walla Vintners

-Syzyrgy

-Buty (and they have a red blend called "The Beast"

Among many many other outstanding wineries.

Granted its a pain in the _ss to get out there and its a hike...its worth the drive from Seattle or Portland.

Do you mean Whitehouse Crawford? or is this a new place? There is a Morrison Lane Winery in WW -- perhaps you are confusing the names? If I had known you were going, I could have recommended some wineries, but it looks like you found a pretty good sampling -- Buty alone is worth the trip IMO. Anyway, glad you enjoyed your time there, Dick.

I liked the area and the wineries enough that while I was there I looked at buying an old downtown home that is 3 blocks from downtown in an old historic area. The homes were on average 110 years old.

Since last year the restaurant scene in this little town has really grown up. Outstanding.

Also the wines, I was so so impressed with the wines and how friendly everyone was. I was there Sunday through Thursday. Many a winery was not open but if you called they almost all made themselves available. Very Very nice. Plus, unlike much of Napa, the winemaker/owner would be present and take you on tours. It kind of reminds of Napa 30 years ago...except I did not go there 30 years ago :-), so let me re-phrase...reminds me of what I would think Napa was like 30 years ago.
