Where did alt.food.wine go???
It's simply one of our periodic troll invasions, sorta like locusts in the Plains states. The usually go away eventually, especially if no one takes the bait and actually gets embroiled in their pointless little food fights.

I sure wish these spammers and morons would go away

that is what kill files are for there are about 4 names that would clearup most of the junk.
Joseph - please explain "kill files"? I have reported the offensive ones, but there are simply too many spammers.

every newsreader program has a functioin to put senders in a kill file, you will not see their posts and unless someone else replies, won't even know that they are around. Someone else can probably look at your header information and determine what program you use and give instructions as to how to apply a filter for your newsreader.
He's posting from googlegroups, rather than using a newsreader. As far as I know, there's no killfile facility in googlegroups.
Ric, Googlegroups is a great facility for searching past messages in a newsgroup, but one of the poorest possible ways to actively participate in a newsgroup. Do yourself a favor and switch to a newsreader, such as Outlook Express, which comes with Windows. See
Bingo. Just ignore the homophobia battles, and post on wine. Move along folks, nothing to see here.
Why are their h*mo battles here. Is it a mistake in posting? What causes that?
Serious question!
Thank you Ken. I use our enterprise Exchange server / Outlook - I'll look into using that instead of Google

You're welcome, but Outlook doesn't do newsgroups. Outlook Express does, and there are lots of other newsreaders available too.
So I just discovered. Figuring out which to use now. regardless of my naivete on such things, your advice has been most welcome and appreciated. thanks again.

Thanks again. Now have Outlook express set up for these groups. Now to figure out the "kill file" thing ....
Click Message | Block Sender (but not on this message, or you'll killfile me).
"Ric" wrote .......
Real simple Ric - in Outlook Express
(1) Highlight the offending message/sender in the Subject pane (2) Click on "Message"; then "Block Sender" - follow the prompts (3) You can edit your Blocked Senders List (Kill File) by clicking on Tool / Message Rules / Blocked Senders List.
Works a treat !!!

No mistake Dick.
The original poster crossposts to a variety of groups, just to piss off the regular contributors to that group, just for kicks - to get a flame war going.
Responders are just lazy in not deleting the NGs to which they are replying (or are content to continue flaming)
I just kill file everyone who posts or replies - sooner or later the thread(s) will run its/their course, and we can get on with discussing wine.
Thanks guys (girls, as the case may be); managed to figure this one out. Miracle.
Now on to more important stuff - like racking the Syrah, drinking some good wine, and trading wine tidbits with y'all
An exellent example to follow. If everyone did this, there wouldn't be a problem.

This would work, except it will take more effort than usual. If you notice, these people are posting from multiple addresses. I kill-filed a bunch yesterday and they're back today with the same handle but different address.
Just please, everyone, don't respond to them and they will eventually tire.
