When to drink? Marquis Philips Syrah 2002 Syrah and Sarah's Blend

I just purchased a few bottles of 2002 Marquis Philips. When should I drink it? I was thinking of opening it tonight, but it seems a little early. Am I correct?

Nope, go for it. Don't forget that the Southern Hemisphere is a half-year behind you so that a 2002 Oz wine is in your terminology a 2001.5 wine so eminently drinkable. Particularly the big fruit-forward wines that the Marquis makes. The days of holding wines for 20 years are gone but for a very few and select Old World goodies; almost anything from South that sells for less than US$40. per bottle is fair game.

Now listen here Mr. Pavane :-)

The international date line runs slightly to the east of New Zealand.

Thus New Zealand and Australia are 10/12 hours ahead of Europe and 16/20 ahead of the USA.

Notwithstanding this ever so minor point, Southern Hemisphere wine producers harvest their grapes in February/March/April in any calendar year - whereas the northern hemisphere grapes are picked in August/September/October.

Thus, a wine displaying any particular year as it's vintage date is actually

6 months older than it's northern hemisphere counterpart of the same year.

We are not backward ;-)))))))))

Heavens, no. I'd open it at lunch or perhaps even a brunch, but I'd probably serve something lighter first. It really depends on what food is being served.
