I recently read about "Great Winemakers of California" by Robert Benson (1977 - Capra Press) on this NG. How I had missed this book when it was first published I don't know, but I have a very clean copy now that I found for $11 through Amazon.
This book has a wealth of information from all the heavy hitters I can recall from that era, which was just after fine California wines had come into prominence on the world scene. Interviews with Andre Tchelistcheff, Martin Ray, Mike Grgich, David Bruce - the list goes on and on.
I probably should get a second copy, because I'm likely to wear this one out! Now I need to do some reading...
