Wine causes cramp in jaw muscles

Just wondered if anyone else experiences this:

After a meal where I drink wine (even just half a glass) I find that my jaw muscles cramp up for 30 minutes or so. I often won't notice it, if I don't open my mouth (i.e. sitting in a room alone) but if I open my mouth to yawn I get a sharp (but not overwhelming) pain on either side of my jaw.

It feels a little like pins & needles, I suppose, on either side of my face.

Anyone else get this? Any idea what causes it? I'm not worried, just curious :)

Agreed - happens about once every 8 meals I guess. Maybe I should ask in a biology group, not a wine group.

It's caused by contractions in the jaw muscles - too much chewing! It's part of the TMJ-syndrome (temporomandibular jouint syndrome). I guess you are rigth, you drink too little AND eat too much - ;) Henning
