Wine refrigerator -- must be quiet

I am looking for a not-too-expensive standalone wine refrigerator for a small apartment that will hold 32-40 bottles, and I need to be assured it will not be too noisy.

Any advice on models? We have primarily reds, so dual temperature is not an absolute necessity.

Thanks.

What is too noisy depends greatly on your rooms and personal tolerance for noise. Many would not find most of the conventional units in the size range you mention to be too noisy. However, for a unit for so few bottles, there is an option. There are small units that use solid state cooling rather than a compressor and fans, and these make nearly no noise. Some call these units thermo-electric. I looked at an International Wine Accessories catalog ( web site

) and they have a 28 bottle thermo-electric unit with a single zone for around US$250. They also have a much more fancy thermo-electric unit that is a dual zone credenza for nearly $700 that holds 36 bottles. I know nothing about these specific units, so you are on your own. You likely can find such units from several other companies or perhaps local stores if you live in a large city.
