Wine Chilling Refrigerators

Hi - I was wondering if any one can give me recommendations on a good wine chilling unit? I've been looking around different websites and it seems that there isn't any one good unit for storing roughly 12 bottles. I'm not looking to break the bank - probably spending around $200 for a unit.

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

I would suggest one of the silent thermoelectric units for a small unit. They work the same as the portable refrigerators you can use in a car or in a room. The main advantage is that they do not have compressors and other moving parts to wear out and make noise. You can buy such a unit that will hold about 16 to 18 bottles for well under US $ 200. They look rather nice and can have digital temperature controls and thermal glass doors. Take a look at some at

. If you are in or near a major city, you likely can find such units locally. Ask at a good wine shop. These small units are mainly used for storage for at most a few years. For serious storage for the long term, a much larger unit is needed. These large units control humidity as well as temperature and usually use conventional compressors. They can be rather expensive in the larger sizes. I am guessing that you are in the US from your email address. If not, lets us know in what country you live. This is an international group, and some regulars here likely can suggest sources in several other countries.
