I don't see what all the squabble is about. Topping off barrels of Beaujolais Nouveau with "humble table wine" can only improve it.

That wasn't the case though. Beaujolais Nouveau never normally sees the insides of a barrel. They were caught using BN to top up barrels of _Grand Cru_ Beaujolais, which is a much more seriously worthy wine.

IIRC (cannot acess the story any more without registering) the Cru Beaujolias was being cut with Beaujolais _Villages_, The journalists seem to like to style this as cheap/humble table wine.

this can't do much for Duboeuf's reputation. His cru Beaujolais have never impressed me much anyway (except for some reason his Morgon which I rather like) Recent attempts at the new "Prestige" label have left me cold. Actually I thinkthe labelling is a confuse the buyer thing there seems to be no difference in quality or taste in a Duboeuf Moulin a vent from Prestige or otherwise bottling.

I am hardly an apologist for Duboeuf, but what one must keep in mind is that he is such a big force in Beaujolais that he can market estate bottled wines such as the Jean Descombes Morgon under his banner. These wines are entirely different beasts than the flower label wines, and often merit serious attention.

It is indeed the Jean Descombes that I like.
