Another bottle question

I live in small town with few restarunts that serve wine. Closest supplier sells 12-750ml bottles for $15, which I think is too high. The local bar is saving their wiskey bottles for me. Most are 1L, with screw caps. I think the neck is too tappered for a cork. Several seem to have a standard screw on cap (like the cap on 2 liter soda bottles). Will I be able to use these? Can you buy these type of caps (metal or plastic) online? Stu

If the bottles take standard PET pop bottle caps thaen these are readily available at most wine making supply stores. They make also sell 28mm Polyseal caps which will aklso fit PET bottles, and are better quality, last longer, and supposedly make a better seal.

HOWEVER, I haven't checked many whiskey bottles, but I didn't think that the PET caps fit them.

I would suggest checking carefully before buying a lot of these caps. If possible, take a sample bottle to the retailer.

hey stu if you had'nt thought of it already, you might try function halls/wedding mills for empties..I was an off premise catering chef when I started w(h)ining; on a good weekend I could take home 6 or 7 cases of empties, sometimes it was mag, sometimes 750's. making friends w/ a rental co-ordinator or house caterer could help you out. BTW, what part of the country are you in?
