BK Luna Bianca kit?

Hey guys, I know some people here have made the BK Luna Bianca kit, but Google Groups archive doesn't have many comments on it. I like white wines that have some body, are very fruity/estery, and some oaky/vanilla in them. Some sweetness is ok, but blush wines are far too sweet.

That sounds close to kit's description, but I'd like to hear some first hand experiences with it.

I'm curious about the kit, so I'd like to see what others say too.

Hey Paul, I've made this kit about 1-1/2 years ago and it's pretty good....exactly how you described. The kit manufacturer also describes this kit as a big, bold Chardonnay style, but I can't really compare it exactly to a Chardonnay. After about a year it did get better body, and because this kit has an f-pack for residual sweetness, it does have some fruity notes. Not too fruity though because when I made this sucker the ABV was around 14% so the alcohol offset the sweetness. The one fault I still can taste in this wine is that the oak isn't 100% integrated yet. This may still take more time but it isn't the vanilla/butter that you'd expect from a big Napa Chardonnay like Rombauer's. Maybe time will tell. If that's up your alley I'd go for it. It's a hit with friends.

I made one of these about two years ago. Seemed like an OK white, but didn't seem to me to be especially full-bodied or fruity or whatever. I guess I'd lean more toward a premium varietal kit. BK offers Australian, Chilean and French Chardonnay kits (Selection International series) that should be about the same price range as the Luna Bianca. I've done their French Chardonnay (haven't tried the Australian or Chilean) and was pretty pleased with it. That's my two cents.
