_Black_ rosehips?!?!?!?

Just found these in a hedge outside work this lunch time - small to average sized rosehips, pretty normal looking, but totally _black_, flesh is a deep purple, seeds are bright red! Never seen these before - anyone of you sagely folks here know of them, and if they're likely to make a good 'beverage'? On their own? Mixed with other fruit? Will they kill me and all my ancestors should I eat one?

Cheers!

Sounds rather like the Burnet rose (Rosa pimpinellifolia) that has purple-black hips. I wouldn't bother making wine from them, far better to stick to a red hipped variety like the Dog rose ( Rosa canina). Try a rosehip and dried fig combination instead of just the hips and aim for a medium sweet wine.

Well, I googled some images of them and found 2, one especially did look rather like these ones, thanks again!

Only too pleased to help, I hope the wine turns out OK. Don't forget to add the dried figs.

Don't know if I'm doing anything with them or not yet - got so much going on! We have wine in different stages of production coming out our ears at the moment, and space is at a premium to say the least, heheheh........

Might do like I'm thinking with the apples - pick and freeze for another time though!

Cheers!
