Is no area of sales safe from this retail predator?

Rumor has it that Wal*Mart will soon have it's own discount brand of wine in the $2.50 per 4 liter jug range. Those of you in search of 4 Liter primary fermenters will be disappointed to learn that the jugs are made from ultra-thin recycled plastics.

While the bottles will be clearly labeled with a Drink-By date, the Marketing Gang (a.k.a. Sam's Shills) is searching for names implying a superior quality to high school drop outs.

So, here are my top choices for great names:

# Name

--- -------------------------- 5 Merde de la champagne

4 Chien fou du Bordeaux
  1. Putain de Bourgogne
  2. Nasti Spumante
  3. Chateau Trailer Park

Sheesh...who cares, and why expend the energy bashing Wal-Mart over their stores selling cheap wine? If it's drinkable for the price, they'll sell some of it to a limited audience. BFHD. I long ago gave up criticizing other people for their taste in what I think are lousy beers...to each his own. They won't be the first store-brand alcohol...ever been to a Schwegmann's supermarket in New Orleans and got a Schwegmann's Beer? Now there was a special product! Wal-Mart can't sell wine here (in Maryland) anyway since only liquor stores can sell wine.

BENTONVILLE, ARK (AP) - Some Walmart customers soon will be able to sample a new discount item -- Walmart's own brand of wine. The world's largest retail chain is teaming up with E&J Gallo Winery of Modesto, Calif., to produce the spirits at an affordable price; in the $6-8 range.

While wine connoisseurs may not be inclined to throw a bottle of Walmart brand wine into their shopping carts, there is a market for inexpensive wine, said Kathy Micken, professor of marketing at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I. She said: "The right name is important."

So, with that in mind, here are the top suggested names for Walmart Wine:

  1. Hardly Burgundy
  2. Chateau Traileur Doublewide
  3. White Trashfindel
  4. Big Red Gulp
  5. Grape Expectations
  6. Domaine Walmart "Merde du Pays"
  7. NASCARbernet
  8. Chef Boyardeaux
  9. Peanut Noir
  10. Chateau des Moines
  11. I Can't Believe It's Not Vinegar!
  12. World Championship Wriesling And the number 1 name for Walmart Wine...
  13. Nasti Spumante
