Metro Grape Growing Part lll

I caught my second squirrel today. I found my family of raccoons live under my tool shed. I decided to feed them for the time being, hoping that would keep them out of the grapes.

One post replier said he thought wasp and yellow jackets only took advantage of bird damage. Not so. Wasps leave a bore-type round hole, sucking out the inside of the grape. I think the yellow jackets just clean up. I tried the dead fish as one poster suggested. It did attract yellow jackets and flies but did not put a dent in the overall problem.

Today the chambourcin brix reading on the east end of my rows was

18.5-19.5. The PH was about 3.25. The west end was around 14.5 brix.I decided to pick the east end and freeze the grapes. I got about 30# off 4 heavily damaged vines. If the rest of the fruit doesn't do any better, I will end up with about 200# of fruit. With no damage, maybe 250-300#.

I got rid of the fish. I will see if Agway has any Wasp traps, while I am picking up a large trap for the 'coons.

Good-luck. It's no fun, fighting so many things to save your grapes. Darlene
