I thought this was a text only news group? I just opened a post that was a picture and was definitely off topic. I did not think attachments were possible. If they are, I wonder about security.

If you're referring to the post I think you're referring to, there was not a picture attatched per-se. Your newsgroup reader saw the URL for an image an autoloaded it.
