Press question to Lum

Lum, or anyone with the experience, I have recently come across a piece of clean 12" Nyloplast storm sewer pipe and plan to make a hydraulic press with it. I have read your comments on building your own press but thought I would ask... If you were to build another, would you use the 5/32" holes again or would you recommend another size. Also, I wonder would there be any point to angle the holes(make them drip down)? I'll set up the drill press to do it. Also how far apart would you recommend that the holes be, both vertically and horizontally? Any special treatment at the bottom edge of the pipe, like half-holes or notches or what? I will be using it mostly for Muscadines, Concords, apples, maybe Elderberries. I really appreciate all your helpful comments on this board! Thank you! Also congratulations, I think I read here that you were featured in a Winemaking magazine! I wonder if there is an online link to the article?

Hi Milt, I would use the same size holes.

I would space the holes about 0.5 inches apart. That's a lot of holes and a hand drill might be faster than a drill press.

I used 1/4 inch vee shaped notches about 3/4th inches apart

Thanks for the kind words. lum
