Pump for wine

Sep 14, 2004 2 Replies

Any suggestions on a type or manufacturer of a small pump, (Max 1/12 HP) suitable to move the wine up from primary to a demijohn 6 ft up All the small pumps I hav examined require 2 tablespoons of oil to be inserted in the pump instead of priming, This obviously is no good for the wine Raymond

If you have a built in vacuum cleaner or a powerful regular vacuum cleaner you might also consider a vacuum racking system. You can make it yourself out of some half inch hose, a bung with two holes in it and a way to adapt your vacuum to the half inch hose. I have a FloJet pump but rarely use it since learning about and building a vacuum system. I can rack a carboy in 2-3 minutes. R Vancouver, Canada
