Sanitizing equipment...

Is it possible to just use a simple bleach solution to sanitize equipment? Any side effects to that?

That's what I needed to hear! ;-) I just bought my first winemaking kit, and I didn't feel like running out again to get their sanitizer.

After you rinse it out a lot it wouldn't hurt to rinse it with a citric acid solution too. Bill

Brad,

The sanitizer for winemaking is also added to wine in very specific amounts as it is important for protecting your wine from spoilage organisms and reducing the risk of your wine becoming oxidized. Both of these developments would ruin your wine. Check the FAQ or the numerous responses on this newsgroup on potassium (or sodium) metabisulfite (KMB).
