sugar = sugar?

Sep 30, 2004 5 Replies

Hi,

still on with my first go at making wine. My instructions started by saying add granulated sugar when starting the process. At the end of the fermentation and clearing it says I should add sweetening sugar to taste. What is sweetening sugar? Will any sugar do?

Cheers

Hi,, You may not have to add sugar at all.... Taste the wine to see if it is to your pallet. If it is too dry, add a little granulated sugar ( depending on how much wine you are making. For a demijohn (4.5 litres) try adding 2 table spoons at a time, then try the wine. You can always add more sugar later but if you put too much in you cannot "un-sweeten".

I'll give it a go - but granulated is ok?

Yes Granulated is fine.
