Superstore Wine

Hello -

I buy the occasional "California Red" kit from Superstore to serve when my in-laws come over. They cost about $40 Cdn, and to be honest I don't mind them too much myself. Now I see that they have 23 litre pails of varietal juice for sale for wine making at 50-60 bucks each. Has anyone tried any of these and how do they turn out?

Have not tried the Superstore pails--the ones they had last time were 21 litres instead of 23, and since all my carboys are 23l, didn't want to try. I have tried other juice pails though and they are better quality than the 40 buck kits. (of course, if it's for the inlaws, well, maybe it doesn't matter)

What's a "Superstore"? Not a Costco I presume who has some cheaper kits that I've been thinking about doing sometime.

Large grocery store. Not a Costco, no. I'm not sure what the US equivalent might be.

I've used the costco white wine kit before and it came out pretty damned nice, was a very light and refreshing taste. I have the red here ready to go and will probably start it up soon. One word of warning on the costco kits however, is that the instructions include a couple of weird steps about degassing which i learned later on are unneccesary. If you do decide to make one of their kits, discuss in the group first so that the recipe they give can be corrected.

I'm in Ottawa, Canada btw. I haven't seen a Superstore around here.

In NS, P.E.I, etc.. they have the 'Atlantic Superstore'. It is identical to a Loblaws, with a different name for some reason.
