Wine from grape juice

Sep 22, 2004 1 Replies

My neighbor gave me some grapes which we processed into grape juice we heated the grapes in a small amount of water and extracted the juice we have 3qts of this juice. Can we make wine from it? Rod

Yes you can but it may not be the best. Heat is generally frowned on as an extraction process. It can give your wine a "cooked" taste. It would have been beter to just use the grapes and let the fermentation extract the juice. I assume the juice is concord or mustang or something like that. You would need to test and adjust the acidity and water it down to an acceptable level and then adjust the sugar.

IMHO I would not fool with it for 3 quarts. Just enjoy the juice.
