Chimay Blue... I bought one!

Nine bucks a bottle at a local Kroger's... should I feel guilty?

For a 750ml bottle? Not guilty, but you paid more than I typically do. Still, enjoy it. Drink up!

Oh, Guess

I pay closer to US$8 but...I hope your sample was handled properly.(read it will taste really really good) If it has a strong mediciny taste, it probably wasn't. Good luck.

Best regards, Bill

Not as long as its a 750ml bottle, and not the 330ml one!

I wish the grocery down the street sold Chimay!

(actually it wouldn't make a real difference in my life, I can still easily get it when I want it at a liquor store that's just as close...it would just be somehow cool to see it there)

About 28% more guilty than I do! I just bought a bottle at Trader Joe's in California for $6.99/750ml plus tax. They only had three bottles altogether, but had over a dozen of Chimay White for $6.49. There was a sign for Chimay Red for $5.99, but I didn't see any bottles. YMMV in other states.

Trader Joe's is famous for it's Two-buck Chuck, or Charles Shaw wine that sells for $1.99/750ml here, but is as high as $3.39 in their Ohio stores. It even comes with a real cork and has won blind taste tests against $50-$63 wines! So when you get a great deal on beer in the U.S. don't forget to mention the state as well. I know you're not near me because there are no Kroger's out here.

I buy all my liquor at TJ's except in a pinch with the sole exception of

1.75 liter hard stuff which for some reason they don't sell. Are those magnums banned in some states? I saw people drinking out of them on the street at last years superbowl eve party in San Diego.

I was at a party recently where some yahoos were drinking Chimay straight out of a 759 mil bottle. They looked like high class winos. If I knew them a little better I would have told them to at least pour it in a plastic cup.

Kind of like drinking Champagne out of the bottle. Looking at the Chimay bottle and cork cage and after reading about secondary fermentation in the bottle, I was surprised not to see a white cellar mark painted on the bottom! My Chimay Blue is sitting in my winerack waiting for a special occassion. I also bought some McTarnahan's IPA at Trader Joe's yesterday for $4.99/6@355ml. That I can drink out of the bottle.
