Hiya

Swan and Rushes or Criterion last I knew, but then I've not really been around Leicester this year.

Ah! That must be the mysterious "The Vaults" I keep being recommended but have never found! Now I know why!

Close to the bottom on New Walk.

Yes I know it now! There's a pub next to a wine cellar, or that's what it looks like?

Just back - that was easily the best pub we went to!!!

Criterion - good - end of beer festival but nice choices and other customers friendly Swan in rushes - good, good choices for son (see below)

2x wetherspoons - most disappointing! (1st spoons - we had chosen beer with pump clips showing but which was actually off - didn't fancy what else was on, 2nd spoons- beer good but choices v poor - all over 4.8%) Out of the Vaults - fab! |Great choice, wifi and chat at the bar! Keen landlord - very good to talk to. Our non-real ale drinking son had loads of choices of Belgian Fruit beers and interesting ciders and perries. For some reason - not explained - the landlord did not have a lot to do with local CAMRA drinkers. Their Loss! I wonder why....

Def my fave pub of our visit!

Paul is defintely a character. Not everybodies pint of beer but passionate about what he likes. Got a nice little niche market with all microbrewery on the handpulls. Regular beer festivals bring the number of available real ales to 30 at a time (18 on gravity in the king street window add to the 12 handpumps).

When I hear a statement like "the landlord did not have a lot to do with local CAMRA drinkers", I have to say that I wonder what it means. Are CAMRA drinkers required to have the CAMRA logo tattooed on their foreheads so that landlords can know that they are interacting with them?

On any night there are a number of CAMRA members drinking in Out of the Vaults. Members of the Branch committee drink in there and have been known to speak to the landlord. He might not want formal dealings with CAMRA but that is his choice.

It was our last pub out of 7 and def the best. I may not have been quite coherent, and may be reporting wrongly, but we def got the opinion that there was a breakdown in relations between the branch and the pub.

But maybe we put a good face on CAMRA with him!!

Hope so..... he certainly knew how much we appreciated the spot!!
