Beer Stops Along NY Thruway?

Aug 31, 2005 3 Replies

I'll be driving across NY on Interstate 90 next week and would like to hear some recommendations for good beer stops that aren't to far off the beaten path. Pubs, restuarants, microbreweries, or whatever.

I've never been there. But if I were making your trek, I would have to stop at the Saranac Brewery in Utica:

They do a very nice Pale Ale, not to mention several other fine beers (imho).

I'm not sure what "too far off the beaten path" means to you, but I'd be sure to stop at Wagner Valley Brewing Company

near Lodi (south of Geneva on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake). Their beer and wines are both excellent.

Note: I am not related to the owners in any way. Just a happy coincidence.

Middle Ages Brewing is in Syracuse, a few miles south of the Interstate. And Buffalo has a couple of nice brewpubs, from what I hear, if you're driving that far.

Glens Falls might be a bit far off I-90 (it's north of where I-90 meets I-87), but Davidson Brothers is there.
