Don't Laugh---Mexican Beers?

Apr 14, 2004 18 Replies

As many of you may have realized by now, I celebrate every Holiday on the calendar (and some that aren't ^_^). Anyway, I am hosting my annual Cinco de Mayo party soon and need some quality Mexican beers. I really can't face another year of Tecate and Corona. If you'uns have any suggestions, I, as always, value them.

I am personally paying £10.00 for every pub you get listed with

Huge bonus if you get 10 pubs listed but then:

If you get 25 pubs listed the total commission that you get is an incredible £525.00

Simply go to the site, click on the link on the front page, download an application form and visit your local, get the landlord to join and thats it. You get money. BIG MONEY

Hope you have great business with us this year

Take care

ps, did I forget to tell you that you get 525 pounds in commision for only

25 pubs?

How 'bout Bohemia, Modelo Negra, Dos Equis. All good IMO and easily available.

GN

Yeah, what he said. I also like Dos Equis Special Lager. Avoid Corona and Sol like the plague.

I'll echo what others said, with the exception of pointing out that it's Negra Modelo, not the other way around.

Bohemia is a nice, malty, light lager similar to many German beers.

Negra Modelo is a darker, maltier beer than Bohemia (which comes from the same brewery, IIRC). It's well-balanced, and not at all heavy. My favorite Mexican beer.

My favorite Mexican beer, by far, is the dark lager Negra Modelo.

To add one to the list...I think Casta Golden is pretty good.

Best regards and Happy Cinco to you, Bill

I've never heard of this one. Where do you get it? I live in Southern California.

GN

Bohemia all the way.

Casta is pretty good. I saw it in LA when I was there last. It's VERY different from typical Mexi-lager swill, more like a US micro really. While it shines like a beacon compared to other Mexican beers it's pretty average when compared with the better American Micros.

May I shill? Let me shill...

But personally, Negra Modelo always does it for me. That with any dish involving mole--a good thing.

Most of the Mexican beers are superb, in my book (especially Modelo) and I think the beer experts pretty much agree on this. I believe the manufacturing is controlled by the gov't and must conform to standards, like their Tequila. (though I could be mistaken on the beer control) They learned to make beer from the Germans in the 1800's and took it seriously. Though I cannot tell you how or why that took place. Have fun. hc

Wow, their brewers must be ancient geezers by now!

Seriously, brewing lager beer got to Mexico through the same mechanism it got to the US: immigration. Where do you think Anheiser-Busch, Miller, Leinenkugel, etc., came from? I'll leave it to others to ask the obvious next set of questions...

Shilling granted. ^_^ Hey thanks, I like to see info in chart forms. It's the nerd in me I guess.

Well, my Appalachian cousins say that's all fine and well for your mole dishes, but they want to know what beer goes best with groundhog?

LOL! And we all know how upstanding and free of corruption the Mexican government is right? Remember a few years back when there was an agave shortage and American demand for Tequila was higher than ever the government did nothing to stop the midnight raids on immature agave fields and upping the percentage of adjuncts...

Negra Modelo is very nice but I'd rather have a Polaro Dark. Good luck finding it outside of TX/Mexico.
