Chelsea Brewing Company and Heartland Brewery are two brewpubs.

Blind Tiger Ale House, dba, David Copperfield's and Waterfront Alehouse are good bars.

Check pubcrawler for addresses.

And for Belgian places, you have the Cafe Brussels, a Belgian restaurant, and Vol du Nuit, a Belgian-only bar.

McSorley's is a great place for atmosphere, but not for beer.

Yes it is. I just don't like sending first time visitors to the outer boroughs.

maybe, but I like so much :)

The Ginger Man (East 36th) has also a pretty good variety of tap and bottled beers. Try the Victory Hop Devil cask conditioned.

My favorite French place is Pigalle on 790 8th Ave at 48th. They have Leffe blonde and bruin on tap, and good French food.

My only problem with the Gingerman is that, each time I go there, I have to fight my way through the Corona and Heineken drinkers to get to the bar.
