Pour me a tall pint of...gout?

....and it eats your liver, too. So what? There's a down side to everything. Does it make life more enjoyable. Damn straight!

As a gout sufferer, I can attest to the facts in the article. OTOH, there are options. I don't drink every day. I take meds that help my body eliminate excess uric acid. So, there is High Life after gout. I've even learned how to brew my own beer. Better to drink really good beer occasionally than drink swill daily.

Sorry to hear you've suffered gout. I wasn't endorsing the article...Hell I didn't even read it! ^_^ I figured it was just a load of anti-beer propaganda. Either way, I'll never stop drinking brewed beverages. It's funny though, I won't touch a soda pop!

Well, there are about a jillion foods that contribute to gout. If I was to eliminate them all from my diet, I'd be down to water and dirt! It just happens beer ...and red wines... are higher in purines (the thing that turns to uric acid and causes gout) than other spirits. Oh well. Like I said, moderation. BTW, gout is primarily genetic. Most folks will never suffer it, not matter what they eat.

Had to say:I've gone through the swollen big toe episode enough to tell you it's damned painful.Even a breath of air across it is like a thousand microscopic jangling hell bells.I couldn't figure it out.Even got to my ankle.I read up on chemical causes and eliminated bakers chocolate(which I used for making coco),spinach(overcooked or even heated can add to it),peanuts and peanut butter and especially anything with peanut oil.I quit these for 14 months, but I drank Guinness every two days. The pain and swelling diminished and disappeared with the exception of rare occasional ankle pain which is still debilitating. It is very possible that the remaining discomfort at times could be the beer or barley or hops or whatever and would also be a cause for kidneystones I imagine. But the highest percentage of what pain has disappeared is due to what I did eliminate.I occasionally eat a piece of chocolate, and my wife makes a chocolate cake now and then;so allowing for the joy with the now and then pain is almost tolerable.I will still drink my Guinness. This is the brew I wound down to after gulping down what the world had to offer.God there's a lot of really bad stuff out there!Love to try to make it myself though.
