I think you missed the point being made.

Same here. The CM deal is not popular with members which might explain 'forgetting' to explain the symbol.

Did I? Or did I wilfully choose to ignore it?
Perhaps.
Perhaps.
And I'm still entitled to my opinion.

Of course!

If the local branches don't care why do the editors thing it so important that CM get an elevated status in the guide? Or do CM paid for entries get in the guide despite what the thousands of branch members in every branch vote for?

Did the hundreds of branch members in your area decide on which pubs got the paid for entry status elevation or was the decision made at the editorial level?
So what you are saying here is that after the CAMRA branches have chosen their GBG entries, other Cask Marque pubs are then inserted by the editors because they have in some way paid to go in?
Sorry, but that's total bollocks (and, I suspect, libellous bollocks, to boot). Have you any proof that this goes on? I know that my branch's entries are those we select, no more and no less. If you are going to throw wild allegations like this around, you'll need to back them up.
Well?

Aska bloody stupid question....
Likewise in Trafford & Hulme branch (that's sort of south west Manchester to non-locals).
Neil Worthington Chairman, Trafford & Hulme CAMRA
I think it would be easier to ask if there are any branches who use CM accreditation to influence GBG eligibility/selection in any way... Clue to the answer - think of tumbleweeds.
Still waiting for your response...

I asked if the paid for CM symbol was inserted at the branch or editorial stage.
You said that this was total and libellous bollocks
Fair enough but who decides on its inclusion, and why?
Branches have decided that the CM award should elevate the status of some pubs appearing in the guide and this is nothing to do with the wishes of the sponsors who have a financial interest in promoting some of the pubs in the guide.
OR
The editor has decided that the CM award should elevate the status of some pubs appearing in the guide and this is nothing to do with the wishes of the sponsors. . OR
The CM symbol has been inserted during the printing process by persons unknown, and no money has changed hands.
Perhaps I have mis-read your reply and the total bollocks you are referring to is the bit about the number of members that vote for a pub entry?
How many votes does it take to get a pub in the guide?
One or two votes - the publican and his mate who are both CAMRA members. Probably a similar number of people that it takes to get a CM award?
Tens of votes - a very small percentage of the members in an area?
Hundreds of votes - a true representation of the members in an area?
Alan, are you a CAMRA member?
John B
Makes no difference - Cask Marque has nothing to do with CAMRA, so it's a simple matter of fact whether a pub has it or not.
