If they want to promote real ale what more of an incentive would anyone with a SatNav need to drink if they can find out about the pubs for free.

and the incentive to buy a copy of the Good Beer Guide would be? Now if you had to have a copy of the Good Beer Guide to qualify for a discount on the software that would be a reasonable state of affairs.

For the same reasons that other products such as the GBG are not free to members. Besides a fiver is hardly going to break the bank is it?

Well I *AM* a member. The emails are infrequent on updates or offers and info from CAMRA The website offers POIs for TomTom only, so why not provide them for other SatNavs? (After all the conversion program is free)

That would be useful but my satnav is not TomTom. If it was a POI file I could use I would probably buy it. As it is I shall carry on lugging my GBG around and not get lost by using the postcodes it very handily provides.

its just Ive discussed this alot with people recently, members and non members, who would see the benefit of buying the book (though probably from Amazon because even with members discount its still more expensive via CAMRA),for the extra info it provides, but baulk at the cost of paying for a GBG POI as they see it as firstly "free" information and secondly its half the cost of buying the book anyway, but is nowhere near half the value.
