Really good site if you are visiting a new town.
A very strange selection of pubs with some obvious classics missing. I'd be worried if it were the only source of good pubs!
And whole Towns missing, not very good.
Also a truly horrible design, and pathetically slow to load on the standard
56k modem.Oh, and a review of the Old Mill in Cheadle Hulme, claiming to offer "At least 10 different guest beers per week"
Pity it's been turned into a "Vintage Inns" foodie pub called the "March Hare" for about 3 years, with Tetley Bitter and Pedigree if you're lucky.
In so many respects, truly a s**te site.

The only towns missing are those without a decent pub.
Are you taking the p*ss?
Swindon has no decent pubs? Scarborough has no decent pubs? Stockport has no decent pubs?
And that's just 3 off the top of my head in the Towns starting with S Section!
Clear off Spammer and take your webshite with you.
Obviously not. Such a "cracking site" wouldn't miss them.
well I don't know what you used to write your html but it was obviously not a text editor cos it looks an absolutely shitey mess in my browser.
Surprise, surprise... FrontPage.
I'm fairly sure it doesn't look /good/ in any browser, tbh.

I'm curious about this thread. Can any of you detractors profess to have a site that is much better?. As far as i can see the site doesn't profess to review all pubs, or even half of them. In fact it seems that it asks you, yes you, contribute or comment helpfully on reviews or pubs. I cant see anywhere on the site that it is trying to be an alternative to the GBG or even the GPG. From what I can see the original poster is not related to the site. It is a website with not a lot of money doing the best it can. If they are using frontpage then they are not an internet designer.
If you don't want to help them (with reviews/coding/etc), keep quiet and hope no one ever talks about you in the same way you have talked about them.
Perhaps if the original poster hadn't gone on about a "cracking site" folk would have bothered to reply that they felt it wasn't. If the originator of the site want to improve his or site then a few free critiques should be welcome. As a site author myself, it has helped me in the past.
A couple of years back, the author of
I always think being supportive and helpful is a good policy; not everyone is a computer whizz. It takes an intelligent person to look beyond cheap criticism to the support and help we all need in various forms.
On the other hand you sometimes need to be cruel to be kind. Let's be honest this is a truly appalling site both in content and design (and no I don't use an unusual/esoteric browser). It's going to take a lot more than a bit of constructive criticism to get this up to "cracking" level.

It takes an intelligent person to appreciate that others have given their time to visit a site and provide feedback on it. Besides how do you know that the site author feels the criticism is cheap? Though "cheap" is appropriate in the sense that those giving feedback have done so without charge.
Basically what others have said.
Looking at the entries for Oxford, you get a slightly strange mix of pubs... not all bad, but omitting most of the really good ones.
The reviews of the pubs are hopelessly out of date. For example, The White Horse in Oxford is claimed to be owned by Ind Coope... it was, some years ago. In the meantime it has been owned by Allied Domeq, Punch, Bass Leisure Retail, Six Continents and Mitchells and Butler. Admittedly, some of those are name changes, but you get the general picture.
How about

Its slow on my work connection!
The first page put me off. I can't even find the link to actually find any pubs!
