Earl Soham - That 'aint mild

At Bury St. Edmunds BF on Wednesday had some lovely 'Gannet mild' from Earl Soham. It was neither dark nor mild. On Saturday I tried the mild at the Station Hotel, Framlingham and it was dark and mild. This isn't the first time 'Gannet mild' wasn't. Any ideas what's going on?

Why wasn't it mild?

Peter would appear to subscribe to the view that all mild is dark and therefore if it isn't dark it's not mild.

A view that the LADS would give him a severe earbashing over.

I wonder how he classifies Hydes Light Mild.

Basically the BF "mild" was not the same as the pub "mild". A world of difference including colour and colour is not a pub-controlled variable. The BF brew was wonderful 'light bitter' the pub stuff was traditional mild.

The Gannet Mild I had a the Bury BF was certainly dark and it was more mild than bitter.

Are you sure you got the right one ??

Following on from Ale-Fan's message. . .

That's the point isn't it. My beer came from the tub with 'Gannet Mild' stuck on it. Perhaps by the time you went a labelling error had been sorted out.

FWIW(Steve) I accept that mild doesn't /have/ to be dark but it /usually/ is.

The reason for the original query was that there was a similar mix-up elsewhere five or so years ago.

BTW: I thought the new layout [old one was stillaging in the middle] is a great improvement. I know a lot of work has gone into new stillages etc. Well done to the fresh faces and old stagers.

Noted.

I've been in the position of taking delivery of a beer clearly labelled as one thing which when I broached it tasted like another beer from the same brewery - I enquired and was told by the brewer "ah, that's were that one went. I will make sure you don't get charged for the wrong beer"

Sometimes your tastebuds are better than a label.

Sorry for being a bit slow about understanding your point. I had Gannet Mild about an hour after BF opened.

I much preferred the new layout - made navigating at busy times easier.

Also good that there was no music this year.
