Leicester

Any suggestions on pub(s) a short walk from Leicester railway station? Emphasis on short, due to disability.

Thanks, Alan Holt

The best closest is the Ale Waggon on the corner of Charles St and Rutland St. Able bodied 5 minute walk.

It has it own website:

Here's a map (pub is actually on the corner of the above two roads, not down Rutland st):

If you really only want to go across the road, try The Hind. They often have a guest ale on, but is mighty pricey in my experience.

And impressively smoky most of the times we've used it.

Thanks for the help. We settled for the Hind due to ease of access for a poor arthritic. Beer was Tetleys (didn't try) and a not bad pint of Pedigree. With regard to price, I guess its all relative. I've lived in Kent for 20 yrs and recently moved to South Bedfordshire and my companions were from Hertfordshire. We were stunned to get two pints and a pint of shandy for less than a fiver - about 50% less than we were used to.

The atmosphere was fine early on but deteriorated rapidly when the police herded the visting football fans into the pub. Luckily it was about time to leave. Also due to football match, beer was served in plastic glasses.

We then went on to Leicester racecourse and were delighted to see that Everards were sponsoring the meeting, and had their own beer marquee serving their full range ... unfortunately it was only to give away free, very small, samples. Pints couldn't be bought. All the other bars served nitrokeg Tiger which was truly horrible.
