Eastbourne pubs

So what is there in the seaside / hotels area?

And what else that isn't in the GBG?

Seems to be no branch website ....

A mini guide to Eastbourne will be available to all delegates.

That doesn't help at the 'deciding where to stay' stage!

Perhaps someone should point out to planners of AGM's that attendees need the information about possible accommodation and refreshment locations about two or three months before the event.

A Christmas/New Year feature in WotsBruin (with the inclusion of the event dates) might be a radical idea.

Hi there

We booked our accommodation in January via the link from Members Weekend area of CAMRA National site. I t takes you to Eastbourne Tourism site. Bit long winded with a mix of e-mail and snail mail but it worked.

See you in Eastbourne

Lynda

Thank you Matt, but do you think they are going to know where there are any real ale outlets near hotels/ B&B, and if there are - what beers they have?

Back to my original question!!!

And why would you google for "Eastbourne Tourist information" gievn what I was looking for?

Obviously I tried many combinations of Eastbourne, CAMRA, real ale before asking here.

My wife and I booked our very reasonably-priced accommodation well before Christmas using Smoothhound .

I have found that Smoothhound always lists more places to stay than any other website and contains masses of information about each place. I never use anything else when looking for accommodation.

The link to the accomodation point of contact has been on the website since February.

Dates are advertised well before then, including the programme from the year before. I think putting the main MW feature too early would a bad idea so I think your radical idea is a bad idea.

So how do I find which accommodation is close to decent real ale pubs?

Well maybe not the main feature, but why not a feature? I'd make the point that, if Camra are going to go to mainstream holiday type venues such as Eastbourne, all the decent hotels get booked up very early, if not 6 months in advance then 4 months - which takes us to Xmas. An accommodation feature in the Dec edition may be worth trialling. At least then, if you've tried it you can turn round and say so, rather than just rejecting out of hand.

I've been actively looking for the usual 3 months worth of features around the area (remember I've been involved in organising 4 AGMs so I'm well aware of the scheduling) and have only noticed this month's. Now either I haven't recognised them because my South Coast geography's out, or they haven't been there.

With respect Chris, would you like CAMRA to wipe your nose as well?

The venue for this year's AGM was published at the time of last year's, and surely anyone planning to go to the AGM has the intelligence and foresight to search for their own accommodation in good time.

There are plenty of sources of accommodation listings, especially online. I found an eminently suitable guesthouse via , and double-checked its facilities and availability via .

Consequently I had us booked in by 7 December.

The pre-registration leaflet which was sent to members in early December advised contacting the Accommodation Office of Eastbourne Borough Council.

So what is all the griping about?

Roy.

Excuse me! I thought CAMRA wanted people to attend its AGM? Now while the likes of you or I, who've been around a bit, are in gear to do the AGM in advance, let's give a thought to the new members who need to be led by the hand a bit more than us oldies, eh?

How to put people off attending in two easy lessons: dismiss their valid suggestions out of hand without giving a reason, and tell them to f off and find out for themselves.

Good point - I had forgotten the sprogs.

Now don't get angry or you will scare me when I see you at Eastbourne!

Well at the moment it looks like we won't make it - lack of money is one very big reason! But you can buy me a pint at Great British Beer Festival!

I started this - and my gripe was - when choosing my accommodation, in the usual ways, I really want to know where the real ale pubs are in the places I am going to stay, so that I can choose a place near them - not miles out along the sea front somewhere, if it turns out to be a keg-only or hotel-bar-only area.
