Edale/Peaks Pubs?

Can anyone recommend a good pub in or around Edale? I went to the Nags Head last year and was bitterly disappointed with the appaling service, bad food and rubbish beer. Surely there must be a nice pub somewhere nearby??!

Thanks,

Dan

Did you try The Rambler p.h., Edale (just down the road from the Nags? How near is nearby btw?

I didn't try The Rambler, but all reports on the internet seem to suggest it is run by the same landlord as the Nag's Head and is equally bad? Unless anyone knows otherwise?

I will have a car with me, so within a short drive is fine!

In that case may I recommend the 3 Stags Heads, Wardlow Mires (I confess I haven't been there for about 7 years myself as every time I try I find it closed!), which is a National Treasure, as is the landlord, landlady and petrified cat?

You may have more luck with the Monsal Head Hotel, not far as the crow flies from the 3 Stags Heads (but it is all up or down hill). Go up the side of the Hotel and you will find the Stables Bar, some excellent ale and food, and my signature on a certificate!

Cheers

To be honest I don't know about the landlords in either, but the beers I had there were tasty enough - can't remember what brews now. Some Tuesdays this is where the Sheffield Folk Train stops and disembarks into the pub. They have a shindig then get back on the next train. I thinks there's also a Folk Train from Manchester uses it.

The 3 Stags Heads is indeed an unusual place, rough, basic and full of character but not everyone's cup of tea. I like the place because it is like a blast from some distant rural past. My partner hates the place and described it and the landlord as weird and creepy.

Seem to be a number of racing and hunting dogs like lurchers, whippets and greyhounds about. Saturdays are still a lively acoustic session nights and in the summer it is packed out in the back room (camping nearby). Deep winter this is a very desolate place to be.

Second all that. Excellent real beers here - about 7 or more at a time. Food is good too. Very touristy with walkers at weekends and can be a bit busy and good outside area - and close by the Monsal Trail etc and various walks.
