Hmmm. It's good to see beer getting a bit more attention from food writers, but this is typical lifestyle journalism, a concoction of press releases with no evidence that the journalist knows very much about the subject. CAMRA has saved lots of family breweries, has it? Tell that to people in Oxford or Henley or...

Yes it is rather OTT - I think the writer is confusing micro breweries - of which of course there are quite a few - with regional independents, many of which have been closed or merged since CAMRA. And not all of us live in Parson's Green - driving round NE London on Saturday looking for a decent pint I found not one place worth stopping at.

On the strength of my last two visits there, the one at Parsons Green isn't worth stopping off at, either.

mmm, & is it really true that in "in the 50 years before Camra came into being, not a single new brewery was established"? No brewpubs even? But I do agree that it's nice to see something positive & informative about good beer in a decent national paper, that is still a rarity. The Guardian/Observer seems to be getting even worse, with the monthly Food Mag often bypassing beer totally, and R.Protz column seems to be less frequent too.

stopping at.

How come?

I've usually enjoyed both food & drink there (tho my wallet always seems strangely lighter & my head more fuzzy after a visit).

From talking to staff & management I know that they take food & drink quality & customer satisfaction v seriously - you thought of emailing them with your complaints? IIRC the website is I did laugh at the article; where the writer couldn't quite decide whether the White Horse landlord's name is Neil or Mark Dorber! (it's Mark).

I thought the brief guide to a few micro & regional beers & breweries by M.Jackson was well-written & not reliant on PR from CAMRA & others. cheers, MikeMcG.
