I need your memories for the Amiga Games Database: A collection of Amiga Game reviews by Amiga players

Just back last week from a trip to PZ, as they abbreviate it (it's the homeport label on boats)

I only tried the well-known old ones; Seven Stars, Falmouth (extraordinarily on Face book)

and the Blue Anchor, Helston. Both still unspoilt. - well mostly - the Blue Anchor has a smoking pavilion instead of garden now.

A bistro-type place opposite the BA and up a bit had a sign £2.00 a pint and a barrel of Doombar on the bar so I was tempted. Good, but probably better if you're into Jazz/Blues and gourmet dining than I am.

The Star in Newlyn, just around the bay from Penzance was a cracking local (just the one ale Betty Stogs from Skinners).

The Castle in St Ives had a good range, but the town suffers from a surfeit of Tourists. Still there's at least 6 pasty shops to choose from!

The Plymouth Inn, Okehampton is still the same after my last visit 15 years ago. Only 1 beer from the barrel when I was there.

and the award-winning Blisland Inn in um, Blisland.

Ouch. :) I've been there once in the seventies while I was camping at Coverack - I had hair then and everything. Its already on my nostalgia imperative list.

I like Blues, I've never really warmed to Doombar though - yet.

Off-topic moment: I'm sadly going to be retiring this Amiga and using a pc shortly. I'm interested in looking through old pc software/games from the last 10 or 12 years - you didn't spot any likely shops around the place like that I suppose? :)

Seems it's full of interesting locals. They were all quietly minding their own business when I called in on a lunchtime.

It was a rough and ready kind of friendly boozer, not really a place to take the mrs for a meal.

I've remembered some other Penzance pubs I popped in:

The Union was of architectural interest - it has a second "Theatre Bar" at the rear - the Theatre being presumably upstairs!

The Turks Head did meals in a big way but friendly bar staff.

The Crown on Qn Vic Square took some finding and has been brightened up too much for my taste, but 3 ales on. The Otter was Ok.

The spoon is a standard spoon, but with bilingual signs in Cornish; I'll bet the staff don't speak it though!

The Pirate I found too upmarket to my liking, but probably OK if you want a meal in a nice setting.
